My Path As a Maker, Artist and Herbalist

My Story: Art
My name is Rachele Bowden. I am a jack of all trades you could say. I am deeply influenced and inspired by nature, plants, and the beautiful little details of a handmade thing. Here you will find a personal collection of my offerings. This will mainly be a space for my fine art and herbal medicine making endeavors. This website is me finally sharing with the world what I do, and what I make, and a deeper glimpse into who I am.
I have always been an artist, a maker of many things. I found art as a refuge during my childhood years, and it blossomed into my innate form of self expression in high school. I studied art at Naropa University. But it got away from me in my mid twenties. In the past few years, it became a necessity to create art again. I realized it was always my first too to regulate my nervous system, and process my life. I have always created. The line between fine art and craft never really existed in my mind. I have always had a love for textiles / fibers, as well as metals and jewelry. I’ve studied jewelry making at the Denver School of Metal Arts, as well as The College of Marin. I lost my way and stopped producing as much fine art about ten years ago. I recently found my way back to it in 2023, in the midst of a very deep depression, painting became my life raft. I also found a new appreciation for detailed collageing.
My Story: Herbalism
I found plants and herbalism first at Naropa University in 2008, where I studied with Brigitte Mars. It was then the seed of appreciation for nature was planted. In my time in California, I learned about permaculture, traditional gardening, native plant propagation, and landscaping. I studied western herbalism at Gathering Thyme Herb School in San Rafael CA. I also studied Ayurveda for a year at The Dhyana Center in Sebastopol CA. I’ve learned from many teachers I continue to learn on my own through workshops, online programs, and self learning. I’ve worked in the wellness field for about 8 years now and have continued to learn and grow through those jobs as well.
